Postcard From Lowell

Joy always had a box of keepsakes.  That box grew to several as the years went by.  I always thought of them as her private treasures.  A couple of weeks before her death, she was sitting in her living room enjoying her family while Laura and I were looking through the treasures.  We came across an unsigned postcard written to her in 1946 from Santa Monica.  It said, “Don’t tell your husband that I wrote.”  Laura and I looked at each other and then at her.  “Is this shades of Madison County?” I mouthed.  I think Laura was too astounded to say anything.  Then in digging deeper we found two more postcards in the same handwriting signed, “Love Lowell.”  How great to discover the playfulness of their young love.
